In 2013, the Israeli government declassified documents detailing Egyptian atrocities in opposition to prisoners of war, recording the deaths of at the least 86 Israeli POWs on the palms of Egyptian forces. In an interview Israeli key basic Herzl Shafir recalled instances of such accounts, such as that of an injured prisoner who was murdered when an
